I don't think a face can really represent somebody any more than a photo can be the building it depicts or the person it conveys. A face is us and belongs to us, but it also defines us to those of us that can't see beyond it. Any number of conditions can harden the exterior but any manner of hope may preserve what lies beneath. Especially as the person typically behind the camera I understand that what is captured is no more than reality in passing but the faces we have each moment tell a story in the same way any photo does. The ability to freeze and possess the face of another is a heavy burden to bear, and you know what Uncle Ben says...
Theres always little pockets of guilt or emptiness or want or whatever you decide to name it. Theres always something missing, something so fundamentally unmendable that it doesn't even feel like there is any point in dedicating time to the alleviation of the discomfort it brings. The shift that brought it about could be from a number of things, missed opportunity, lost connections, a failure of someone at some level or maybe its not failure if its destined. Who am I to touch the untouchable, call forth the intangible, know the unknowable, how deep in my hubris is my soul buried to feel the yearning for that which no man can be deserving.
